Ingredients at-home recipes

What do I mean about ingredients-at-home recipes? It is a guide to create fun and enjoyable meals that are not only budget friendly, but provide an excellent taste, with the available ingredients in your own home.

A filipino dish called Sinigang

Some of the ways I like to cook food are from an improvisational or cook-according-to-taste combinations that require ingredients that are found in your fridge, to home cooked meals, to share a meal with your significant other or loved ones, here are some examples.

There are common themes in my recipes and they are:

  • Cook according to your taste

  • The "Wafting-method"

The Do's and Don'ts of improvisational cooking:

  • If the taste is overwhelming in terms of spices, it really depends on the type of dish you are creating. If the purpose of your dish is that you do not want the dish to be spicy, but it is, then I would recommend adding less of that spice the next time you cook that dish. But if you had to serve that dish, then ultimately I would add water and balance the spice. Essentially, the meat or vegatable you cook with the spices, creates it's own flavor to the broth.

  • To make a soup thicker, try adding fine pieces of potatotes and constantly mixing them with a soup base, rather than adding flour. The potatoes will become mashed and with a water combination, become a thick soup.

  • If you know that some meats create its own fats (ie. when you cook it the meat, it will "remove" fat and oils. Save the aioli and use it to create or improve other dishes. For example, a turkey being boiled; you save the aioli to create gravy. Another example is to create meat balls with air-fried corn beef.
